Donald Trump cheered by Irish crowd as he presents Shane Lowry with winning trophy

Donald Trump was cheered on by the Irish Open crowd as he presented Shane Lowry with the winning trophy.

The Irish golfing star cruised to victory with a record 11-shot win at 23-under par, which came after shooting a course-record 62 on Friday.

Trump came out to chants of "USA" when arriving to present the trophy, before handing the award to a beaming Lowry.

The US President then announced he was removing tariffs on Irish whiskey to the crowd's applause.

Lowry joked that Irish distillers should send him a cheque after Trump's speech.

He told reporters: "[Trump] said he's taking the tariffs off Irish whiskey - which Irish distillers better be sending me a cheque soon, that must be worth a few quid with them.

"There was a big dinner last night, and I was there, and we had a talk, but he didn't tell me that he had changed his plans for me."

It was a perfect day for Lowry, who made eight birdies on Sunday and dominated the field.

The win saw the Irishman get his second Irish Open after winning in 2009 as an amateur.

The home crowd were ecstatic on the last hole with another brilliant birdie putt, as Lowry celebrated one of the best tournaments of his career.

Speaking after the win, he told Sky Sports: "To come here this week and do this, like come on. I don't know. I just don't do things by half measures.

"I can't believe I'm standing here, [looking at] that leaderboard. My God. I didn't know how I was doing. I said to my caddie after holing 15: 'How far ahead are we?' He said: 'Far enough.' So I was happy with that.

"A lot of things went right for me. But this has been the most spectacular week. It's just mad. I can't believe it. My mum's just standing there, it's been unreal."

Lowry's last individual win came at the BMW PGA Championship in 2022, after beating good friend Rory McIlroy and Spaniard Jon Rahm by one shot.

The Irishman added: "My wife and my kids are back in Florida.

"When things are not going well at this level, it's hard at home as well, but my wife has been a huge support and my kids, I love them so much.

"I'm so happy for them. I can't wait to bring a trophy home.

"My daughter is always asking: 'When are you going to bring a trophy home?' So I'm going to bring a trophy home."

Lowry will be looking to replicate his success from this weekend and 2022 at the BMW PGA Championship next week.
